EVENT: (July 30, 2014) WORLD WAR ONE 100 years later: What really happened and how is history being used today?

How is the memory of WW1 being glory-washed today?

Join us for a Public Discussion on WWI this July 30 2014, at 7pm.

WWI used the mechanized technological innovations of the industrial revolution as tools for unprecedented destruction and mass slaughter as workers and peasants around the world killed each other in the interests of the rulers of imperialist powers.  On its 100th anniversary, Canada remembers the carnage through the lens of noble sacrifice and the coming of age of a nation.    Please join us for a critical discussion of WWI, preceded by two presentations: one by historian Henry Heller that outlines what really happened and another that looks at how Stephen Harper wants us to think about the war today.
