Join us for a screening of the documentary ‘Catasroika: Privatization goes Public’ on Wednesday Jan. 21st at Millennium Public Library at 6:15pm.
The film examines the effects that privatization has on public assets like Rail, Water, and Electricity by looking at the current situation in Greece. As the debt crisis worsened, harsh austerity measures were implemented on Greece by the European Commission, European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Public assets that had been paid for and built by Greek workers were privatized and sold at fire-sale prices. These austerity measures are not unique to Greece, this is the new standard that countries can expect if they accept bail-out money. Why are countries like Greece being punished for a crisis they did not create? Stay after the screening for a discussion.
Coffee and tea will be provided.
A child care subsidy is available with prior notice.
