Challenges to rape culture, campaigns demanding action to stop the murder of indigenous women, women exposing everyday sexism… there’s been a welcome feminist revival happening. What kind of ideas and organizing will be most effective in taking feminism forward in the “age of austerity”?
We have 3 fabulous speakers for this event:
Johanna Brenner is a community and labour solidarity activist in Portland, OR and a member of Solidarity a socialist, feminist, anti-racist organization. She writes on feminism for left publications including Against the Current and Jacobin.
Sadie-Phoenix Lavoie is a 21 year old Anishinabe women from Sagkeeng First Nation, community activist, student advocate, and survivor of sexual assault on campus.
Mandy Fraser works as a counsellor and victim advocate in Klinic’s Sexual Assault Crisis Program. She has been standing up and speaking out against gendered violence ever since she discovered she was a feminist.
The WNSG supports ongoing feminist, labour and other kinds of
progressive political activity at U of W and elsewhere. We welcome opportunities to learn how our small collective may strengthen our solidarity efforts.
About this event: the WNSG is a UWSA community partner. Although this event is being held on campus, its intent is to draw participants from the broader Winnipeg community, including U of W.
